Packet Sniffing Prevention Techniques Ang Ray Yan, Lee Han Cheng Yuan Yu Chuan
Abstract
Networking has become a prevailing medium for exchange of information. However, intruders might attempt to intercept information sent in packets through networks. Known as packet sniffing, this results in a loss of privacy of sensitive data or the data altogether. Hence, our project aims to ensure privacy and authenticity of information, as well as increasing the probability of recipients receiving intended information. This is achieved via 2 existing ideas, multi-path routing and Shamir’s secret sharing scheme, such that information security is achieved independent of any encryption. The algorithm splits the original message to separate parts, where are sent in different packets, and any k out of n shares allow recipients to fully receive the message, where k ≤ n. Applications range from messaging to sharing corporate information across networks. However, problems include protecting networks with limited secure paths, and intruder activities outside the network remain undetected.
**Enhance Images while Maintaining Clarity and Minimizing Distortion**

Abstract
Enhanced images were generated after going through an image enhancing program
developed during the course of the project. Image Enhance Pro! aims to enhance
images using enhancing techniques such as Anti-Aliasing, Bilinear Interpolation and
Super Resolution via Sparse Sampling. The end result of the project is a user-friendly
image enhancing program using ActionScript 3, Image Enhance Pro!, that is aimed at
commercial usage. The resultant image would be less pixilated and clearer generally.
Transforming images to fit different purpose have been widely used, whether it is for
a design, or for large billboard prints. Taking images with mobile phone cameras have
always resulted in pixilated and blurred images which is incomparable, in terms of
clarity, to images taken with compact cameras or Digital SLR cameras. Transforming
the images by scaling it down also causes distortion.
Due to the rising importance of images for different applications, the project aims to
create a program whereby images are enhance, as well as minimizing distortion and
maintaining clarity. The purpose of the mentioned project is to enhance image
resolution as well as to minimize distortion while transforming for different uses.
A specific part of the project is minimizing distortion, which require one concept,
namely Anti-Aliasing[1]. Anti-aliasing is the technique of minimizing distortion when
representing a high resolution image at a lower resolution. It is utilised in many
applications including digital photography and computer graphics and also in 3D
images, with objects producing the “staircase effect” of jagged edges[2]. As such,
anti-aliasing is one of the key concepts in minimizing image distortion.
In resizing images and maintaining clarity, a concept would be digital image
interpolation[3]. Interpolation works by using known data to estimate values at
unknown points. Besides resizing images, rotating images do cause image degradation,
thus it is advisable not to rotate it more than once. There are many algorithms in
Image Interpolation; one of which is the bilinear algorithm which produces sharper
images by sampling four original texels linearly.
Besides Anti-aliasing and Bilinear Interpolation, sparse sampling may also be applied.
In these sampling, the prior that the signal is sparse in a basis or in a parametric space
is put to contribution and perfect reconstruction is possible based on a set of suitable
measurements. The idea behind multi-frame image super-resolution is to combine
several blurred low-resolution images or video frames to produce a single detailed
high resolution image. Super resolution[4] techniques thus allow to overcome the
hardware limitation of the acquisition devices and to obtain images that would
otherwise require much more expensive hardware. A recent testing of this method
was conducted with 60 images acquired from a Nikon D70 DSLR, each 60*60 pixels.
The resultant product was a super resolved image of 600*600 pixels which is clearer
and higher in resolution.
In image enhancement, both anti-aliasing and image interpolation is able to work
together to better create a sharper as well as smooth-edge image. As such, a program
with the above-mentioned algorithms as well as to improve it would be the product, to
further enhance images.
